New drive chain - cost?

Hi all

I have recently been told by my mechanic that I need a new drive chain. He then stated that this would be a big job and that he was unwilling to do this and I would be better selling.

Has anyone had any experience of this before? I would rather keep and repair but if it is too costly I will sell if needs be.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.
